review 1: Big Brown Bear gets all four little bears into bed. The moaning wind and a rattling chair wake him up. He turns on the light to find four scared little bears. They all climb into Big Brown Bear's bed and read a familiar sounding story about three bears and little girl with golden hair. They all fall asleep. Children will identify with night time fears. They will be reassured by Big Brown Bear's response. The book features great illustrations and a four line verse on each page. The rhyme will encourage phonological awareness.
review 2: Five bears head to bed, only to be scared by some nightly noises. Five bears are out of bed, until Big Brown Bear suggests they sleep in just one. Like Bears on Chairs, less is more as the bears come together, sharing what they ha... moreve. Background colours reflect on the emotions of the bears, and with the exception of the scared yellow, are in calm blues and purples. Images are painted in acrylic, yet the artist managed to give it the soft, warm, fuzzy feel of pastels.For the most part, the easy rhyme scheme works, but in several instances "bear" is rhymed with "bear" or something is different in the meter that gives an awkward pause. With sparse text, a cute idea, and some addition and subtraction, it does make for a good bedtime story, because in the end the nightly noises are forgotten and the bears get some sleep. less
