review 1: This story grabs your attention from the very beginning and you end up never putting it down. A lone werewolf brought up in a pride of lions that don't accept her. She learns to defend herself while trying to fit into a pride that will never accept her. This is her story of trying to find a place where she belongs. As she leaves the pride and goes in search of a pack of werewolves she also goes through a journey of discovery about herself and a different way of life. After a lifetime of hardship and being rejected she finds it hard to believe that people are not going to throw her out at every turn. She is thrown into one chaotic mess after another as she learns what its like to live in a werewolf pack and as they come to depend on her she grows more confident in hers... moreelf and her abilities. The one thing to keep in mind reading this story is that its from a "british" standpoint so there are a few differences in the language and they throw "notes" around instead of dollar bills. But overall this book grabs you from the beginning and you can't put it down till the end and your looking forward to the next one.
review 2: 2 1/2 stars. What I liked: I thought the basic storyline was good. I enjoyed the concepts of the pack, and the additions if the other paranormal creatures--vampires,witches, etc. I also liked the change in POV.Things I was not so crazy over:I enjoyed the secondary characters more than the main. I never felt any love between the H and h--h seemed to be looking at other guys, and H was not nearly as protective and possessive as I like. Writing style was just OK (I am under the impression this is a first time author. I do think she is very creative and will probably only get better.). The story just ended--I assume more books will follow, but the ending seemed too abrupt. I KNOW this is going to sound pretty silly on my part. The one thing that sticks with me the most is the whole challenge deal the h had to do with the pride she belonged to. I had to look it up but the h said "six years and not a week went by without one of us being challenged". These are challenges to the death, which means if only one of them were challenged, (she said sometimes she and Jared both had to fight challengers) that would be 312+ dead pride mates. (This doesn't seem a little excessive?) Yes, I know, kind of picky, and we are talking about FICTION with SHIFTERS and VAMPIRES, but that seems ridiculous. I'm a numbers person, and I am picturing a small town losing that many citizens. less
