review 1: ‘You Can't Make This Up’, a memoir written by Al Michaels, seasoned TV sport broadcaster, mostly known for his everlasting trademark voice on Sunday Night Football NBC show, is not only book for those in love with sports, but also an entertaining read for people who like to read about behind-the-scenes TV stories.Al Michaels worked for his whole life on television, more than two decades he was play-by-play voice of Monday Night Football and currently is working on Sunday Night Football. Though being awarded as Sportscaster of the Year more than 30 years ago that was only first of many nominations and awards he received during his rich TV career that is still lasting. In his memoir, together with co-author L. Jon Wertheim who is the executive editor of Sports Illustrate... mored, Michaels provided a picture of sports industry personalized in many figures which had marked sport history and sport venues all across the world. It’s difficult to single out one or even few most interesting things found within book covers – plenty of anecdotes, personal stories about sports heroes or description of his working days with Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football – every single one will make you laugh and want for more. Therefore, either you are sports fan or just looking for some fun reading about sports heroes (and some not so nice guys) ‘You Can't Make This Up’ is worth your time, a great read that will keep you entertained.
review 2: In "You Can't Make This Up" Michaels covers his career from childhood up to 2014 with NBC Sunday Night Football. A lot of his stories are ones I've heard over the years either from him directly or about him. If you know little about Michaels' career, I certainly recommend the read. It's really a chronological history of significant events in his broadcasting career than an in depth memoir full of introspection and personal history. Overall, an entertaining read. Quick paced, easy to absorb, but certainly on a storytelling/superficial level and not much more. less
