review 1: I was home sick, so I got to read this book from start to finish in one day. If one can say they enjoyed a book about Dementia, than I would say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were so many references to things in the author's life that brought back memories of my own family (also raised in NYC, by Eastern European first generation Jewish parents, during the 60's and 70's). In addition, I'm facinated by first hand accounts of Dementia. As a psychologist, these types of books give me insight into the lives of people I encounter professionally. They also give me materials to share with families struggling with similar situations. As a middle aged person, these types of stories also help me think about my own life. Regardless of your background, your profes... moresion, or your age, this is a book that probably holds something worthwhile for you--and it was a well written easy read.
review 2: All due respect to the author but there seems to be way too many memoirs disguised as recipe books or vice versa and it's really hard to feel anything for both the memoir or the recipes when it's all mish-mash. Feels like a cop-out, as if there isn't enough for a memoir or the author doesn't have enough for a full fledged recipe book and using the memoir aspect as a literary clutch to fill the pages. less

enjoyed reading but too much of a memoir of the author, not her mother's progression of her disease.

Found her to be a bit hard to read but...it was a very personal story. Gonna try a few recipes...

This book was disappointing, as it was more about the writer than the subject.

Sad, scary... but something to identify with-- a little.
