review 1: I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Suri's Burn Book blog for over a year. I love the biting sarcasm and wit, and feel as though the narrator ("Suri Cruise") has indeed come to life in a funny and lovable way. The reason for the one star, however, is my realization (slow on the uptake) that this book is based on the egregious hounding and stalking of small children. It matters not who their parents are. They did not sign up for a lifetime of being pursued and harassed for our entertainment, and let's face it - this is entertainment in its simplest form. These children have no idea what is being written about them, and though it is "all in good fun", it is still wrong.
review 2: You don't read a book like this for deeply moving, intellectually stimulating pros
... moree. If you're the sort who only appreciates that sort of material, sod off and run away.If you're the sort who shrieks in horror at the thought of mocking children at all -- even in fictional manner -- turn back now. You're not the right reader for this book. If, however, you are someone who follows celebrity gossip, be it in earnest or as an ironic eyeroll at how our society is obsessed with stars for no real reason aside from them being stars, you will definitely appreciate Suri's Burn Book. In the spirit of those hallowed pages from the film Mean Girls, Suri Cruise alternately takes potshots at or praises young Hollywood and its parents, lacing the pages with laughs and giggle-snorts at the "it's funny 'cause it's true" wicked thoughts we've all had.But beneath the surface, the project itself is pure testament to societal obsession, which is why it's such a clever idea. Suri Cruise's existence has been such a bloody spectacle that of course we'd pay heed to a book written by her snarky little fingers, wouldn't we? Of course we'd expect her to be pretentious from our own judgements of her clothing, facial expressions and behaviour. You see, we judge these children ourselves. Don't we all feel better to watch them judge their brethren?I expected the book to be a bit more funny, given its Tumblr of origin, but I suspect the worst digs at celebrities left book execs squirming. This is a great guilty pleasure read, whether you hang off US Weekly's every issue or roll your eyes at those who do. less
