review 1: I read this because I read and loved the Matched Trilogy. I usually want to read a book that has a good romantic story, but this wasn't as strong into the relationship. But that didn't mean it was bad, either. I got interested in the actual story and the mystery of "how and why did her mother die?" "Can we trust her aunt?" "Why did Bay leave her?" And stuff like that. I have to say that the romance was just kinda thrown in there and not very interesting, but then again that wasn't really the point, either. It wasn't the best book, I do admit. Like, with the Matched Trilogy, I didn't want to put it down. I read it every chance I got. This one, I just read it to read it, but it didn't have me wanting more and more and loving everything. But this is a good book, all in... more all.
review 2: Kind of a strange book, but an interesting idea/world. However, I really couldn't picture the underwater city much at all. There was mention of "levels" and we know the Deep Market is the "Deepest level" but how on earth do they get to it?? No mention of stairs, but they do use the motorized dry gondolas...how do they get a person down to these deeper levels on one of those? And then back up again? Just stuff like that made it hard for me to visualize it. Also, there were many times when the action and plot lagged. And the main character wasn't hugely likable. I'm guessing this is a one-off book, not a series, by the way it ended. less

Interesting concept, and I was extremely glad it didn't end in a cliffhanger, like I had feared.

1.5 stars After reading the synopsis, I had low expectations. I was still disappointed.
