review 1: Patrick's scumbag boyfriend slips something in his drink and crashes his car into the river and leaves him for dead. Whiskey sees this happen and jumps in to save Patrick. Whiskey and his fellow researcher take Patrick in and put him to work. Whiskey tries to help him get his life back together. Will the cave to the feelings they have for one another?I felt this book moved a little slow at first. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to shake Patrick or hug him. I didn't feel the connection I think I should have felt between these characters. I don't like books with such big age differences (Whiskey is 12 yrs older), and If I would have known that I most likely wouldn't have purchased the book. This book wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. :-(
review 2: Oh this was the
... more best book!Patrick is one of my all time fave characters and I loved how he and Whiskey interacted with one another.Patrick Cleary is a character that is at times heart breaking and inspiring. He's sweet and he has the best heart...but he also has a tendency to make really poor choices and some serious self worth and self esteem issues. It also doesn't help that he has abandonment issues because his mother took off on him, daddy issues because of an inability to connect emotionally with his father, and a whole host of issues related his adult ADHD. He takes what he can get from whoever is willing to give it to him because he honestly doesn't believe he deserves any better and this attitude, along with a dirtbag boyfriend, leads to a set of circumstances that leaves Wes "Whiskey" Keegan landing smack dab in the middle of the hot mess that is Patrick's life. Whiskey and Patrick have such a good connection that you can't help but kickyfeet flail. Whiskey is kind and patient but never patronizing and he has a way of encouraging Patrick and supporting him without taking over. He's exactly the strong, steady presence that Patrick needs and Patrick in turn brings light and color into Whiskey world. The secondary characters in this book (Fly Bait...how I love you so) are engaging and endearing and Patrick's father in particular has a really satisfying story arc. The romance hits the perfect balance of sweet and hot and it's just the perfect "rainy day read" or "feel good" book :) less
