review 1: This book was a pleasant surprise that made me laugh out loud, nod in agreement and even *gasp* read parts out loud to my very not-listening husband. I am aware that the struggles she is describing are those of the upper middle class and she does not have the struggles that poverty or single parenting bring, but I found I could relate and it was comforting to read those thoughts and worries that I have too. Made my journey less lonely to read about someone else's.
review 2: 2.5 stars. The book started on a good note, but somewhere along the way it lost me. Maybe it was when she delved into the super elite world of finding prestigious preschools in NY when her child was just barely old enough to walk. I get that it's crazy there, but perhaps it wouldn't be of
... moreparents would stop buying into the crazy. After that we were told that reinforcing that being pretty is what's most important when you have a girl, and how lucky they are to have a summer home in the country. Her problems just started to sound silly and her solution to just do what everyone else was doing because you have to did not make sense to me. I obviously couldn't relate to her in the last half of the book. Kind of a bummer because it at times conveyed perfectly the feeling of sheer joy mixed with sheer torture that is parenthood. less
