review 1: Sunshine After Rain A little girl’s ninth birthday celebrated by a party at a skating rink with all her friends should be a memorable event. It was for young Flower Abrams, but for all the wrong reasons. It’s a birthday she’ll always remember because it’s also the day her innocence was snatched away from her at the hands of her father. Years of being raped by her father on a regular basis and keeping the secret from her mother and best friend has wrecked havoc on her young mind. Will this flower ever blossom? Straight, no chaser…I didn’t expect much going into this read. Girl is molested. Girl turns into a ho/stripper/prostitute. How many times have we read this same story? Too many! Yes, Flower is molested. Yes, Flower is promiscuous. But that’s wh... moreere the similarities end. With FLOWER’S BED, author Antoine ‘Inch’ Thomas does not simply use the rape as a catalyst to explain away or justify the main character’s actions like most books that explore this subject matter. And in most books, the female, only after reaching the lowest of the lows, decides to change her life, treating the symptoms but never dealing with the underlying cause. That’s like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound and hoping it heals. Instead, and to his credit, Thomas focuses on the damage done to her psyche, the ramification of rape, and the need for help to continue/move on. She deals with her rape head on and in doing so, Thomas manages to inform readers while entertaining them at the same time. There were a few things that didn’t quite add up and the editing could have been better, but I chalk that up to it being a debut. FLOWER’S BED is a quick and captivating reading. Antoine ‘Inch’ Thomas’ approach will distinguish his book from others and resonate with readers.
review 2: The book "Flower's Bed" is a very ,very sad story about this nine-year-old little girl named Flower went to this party to have some fun in her Birthday with her family and friends. As the party ended her and her father went back home to the Bronx where they lived at ,and that evening a heinous ,very bad crime happened that you won't even believe. Flower's father had rapped her badly and she was sodomized. Then the sexual inter coarse had continued and had affected her life ,like into her emotional and psychological reactions. Until she looked forward to it. As time passed Shawn Moore ;a young man; came into her life making a change into her future again like as her father. If you finish reading the book you will feel the heartfelt emotion about a nine-year-old little girl name Flower. I really liked it because it brang me into the story and it was a really heart touching feeling that made me almost feel like if it was to me. The way that is was written was a really nice ,like if it was a poem book. I recommend it because some people want to help children that are being abused all around the world. I really recommend the book to the reader's that love to read abused-children books. less
