review 1: That’s what I call a little miracle. And, oh my gosh, I love miracles. Every month, my library holds a use books sale and books are only one or two euros. First, I look at the titles, see if there is a famous book I’ve wanted to read. After that, I buy books I never heard of which don’t look too old, or with a cool title, or with a nice cover. This book looked just brand new, and it’s written “From the winner of the Prime Minister’s Literary Award For Young Adult Fiction 2010″ on the cover. I don’t usually read a lot of contemporary novels, but I thought it would be a nice book to read during summer. After reading the first page, Tiff was already one of my favorite characters ever. I never identified myself so much with a character before. She is eighteen, s... morehe lives in a small town, she has a best friend who she tells everything, she loves reading a lot and she’s having her first work experience. Nothing exceptional, but it is so well written. Tiff has quite an atypical family, I think you’ll love all of its members. The book is truly funny, and the characters are extremely realistic. I could picture everyone, hear their voice when they were talking. Tiff is not just a character from a book, she’s a real 18-year-old girl, I felt like she was my friend and I could chat with her on the phone. The author made her so real. Every time I opened my book, I was in Gungee Creek.I cried so much at the end, I really cared about all of the characters and the ending is just too sad, even if I was expecting it to end this way. I just wanted it to last a lot longer. Why did it have to be so short? That’s how you know a book is really good, when you want more after you finished it. Bill Condon’s other books are now definitely on my list of books I have to buy. I won’t give the book five stars because I feel there are a few things missing, about Kayla, about the love story between Tiff and Davey, and also about Tiff’s trip. The book deserved a few more chapters. But still, I absolutely loved it.
review 2: Succinct and to the point, A Straight Line to my Heart captures and swiftly delivers a story line filled with love, joy, pain and sadness. I loved how relatable Tiff was - from the beginning she was no more than an ordinary girl who had trouble with expressing her thoughts as words and struggling with meeting someone that was right for her. As the story developed, plots entwined... and yet, the ending was what caught me. It finished much too abruptly, with many unanswered questions and plot lines that seemed that they had only just begun, to end so soon. Touching and beautifully written, yet unfinished - an epilogue may have been just what this book needed. less
