review 1: A great book for New-Bees. This is not a How-To Manual, but a How To Love letter to bees, honey, and life of keeping and caring for hives. The author would have benefitted from a slightly more aggressive editorial hand. There are a few too many typos and an incorrect use of "it's" as a possessive, as well as some phrases that are used repeatedly in overly close proximity to each other which speaks to a lax editorial hand looking at the book as a whole. But these are minor quibbles, clearly. What comes through is the author's love of bees, her enthusiasm for the medicinal and health benefits of bees and bee by-products, and her fascination with the endless variety of honey. Don't be surprised if you too want to enroll in one of her Honey Tasting/Sommelier classes. I also re... moregret that I did not ask my various friends scattered around the globe this Christmas time to bring me local honey from their travels. That will now be my regular request. "Hey. Here's $30. Bring me back some honey." It's a big world and it's FULL of honey waiting to be tasted and sampled.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. I typically steer away from nonfiction for entertainment, but this book is written in a very engaging style. I feel I got a good introduction to beekeeping, why people choose this hobby, the time it takes to be a beekeeper, etc. If I take up beekeeping I might want to read it again, because she has lots of tips and things she has learned from her experience that would be helpful to a novice beekeeper, plus there are recipes for honey/beeswax products. less
