review 1: I could not finish this book - it was so weak. :( It is clear that the author has written about these characters before, and this is the first one in the series I'm reading, so I'm not reading in the correct order. But, there are so many characters thrown at the reader, and the connections are so unclear. The timeline is incorrect, too, at times, based on what characters are saying. The author is very repetitive in the ideas she's trying to get across to the reader, and in other ones, too vague. One character is desperately trying to hide the fact that she "had a relationship" with another character, but it turns out the "relationship" was never more than her turning him down after a date or 2 - no sex, no nothing. And yet this is a HUGE premise of the book. ?? The... more plot flops around all over the place. Not a fan - couldn't stomach it enough to finish it.
review 2: This is the third and final in the Black Falls series. I have read other Carla Negger's books and was prepared for the reserve of the characters, but it seems extreme in this novel. Being the third in a series and being the first one I've read in the series, I expected some difficulty in connecting to the story and the characters, but Cold Dawn had so many characters and so many storylines that it was doubly difficult. Rose is a search and rescue volunteer and dog trainer. She is the youngest and has 3 older protective brothers. The main story centers around the search for a serial arsonist who has killed friends in their town of Black Falls, Vermont. Nick comes to Vermont ostensibly to follow up on the arson case but also to follow up with Rose. They had one encounter about 8 months previously when they were both vulnerable. Once there, more dead bodies start turning up and the heat is on to find the killer. And the heat is on between Rose and Nick. Or not so much. It's sort of a cool walk. The whole book actually has a cool feel to it. It's interesting but not doesn't grab you. Though I will definitely go back and read the others in the series. less

I enjoy her series books very much. My only complaint is they should release them closer together.
