review 1: I have to admit that I was not crazy about this book in the beginning but toward the middle I started to enjoy it. It reads like someone (Caroline) speaks. I do not watch the show so I am not sure how she speaks but if I had to guess..I am sure it is like she writes. I saw her on the TV talk show circuit and thought, she seems like a down to earth person. I liked some of her quotes like, "Picking a man is like picking a race horse" HA! I am originally from Jersey and moved to Texas as a teen so a lot of the terminology used in the book brought back memories...good memories. It was an easy read and offers things like recipes, advice and affirmations along with a story.
review 2: I hadn't heard a lot about this book, so I had no expectations. I only recently star
... moreted watching the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and found myself stunned by their dramatic feuds. Their houses are beyond gorgeous, no one works yet they all spend money like it's tap water, and everyone looks fabulous all the time. Huh. Caroline is the common-sense one of the group of screaming, crying people, and I have an affinity for her because of that. The book is pretty much just her outlook on things -- nothing deep, nothing too important, just a slight sort of, "I think this." "I raised my kids this way." "My husband works hard." I have to say her idea of her kids not being spoiled is funny -- she put 250 thousand dollars in her 23 year-old daughter's makeup business; so her daughter could "own" her own business. When her sons were 18, her husband would get them hotel rooms for the night if they wanted to sleep with their girlfriends, and let her know they wouldn't be home that night. All her kids had to "work" for free, but she bought them all cars, clothes, and anything else they wanted... Her kids crack me up on the show, especially Christopher, so, I suppose it worked for them all. Good luck and God speed, people. Also, I might try her meatball recipe. less
