review 1: An Authentic 60's Novel!, March 31, 2012 A Place of Forgetting (Paperback) I took a "Look Inside" and bought this book from Amazon.com for my ereader. Knowing that the story began in New York's Catskill Mountains during 1960's -- the time and near location where I grew up as a teen -- the first page piqued my interest. Love, war, relationships and self-awareness all ring true in this early Vietnam Era story as Elizabeth Roark searches to find her way in the world. Kudos to Carolyn J. Readers will relate to a cast of characters whose fears, tears, laughter and longings are timeless! Bette A. Stevens, ... moreMaine
review 2: The story line is about a young woman living with her father and her grandmother, smalltown.....she is in love with the boy next door who goes to Vietnam and is reported missingand presumed dead...enters a flamboyant young woman claiming to be engaged to the boy nextdoor, much to the suprise of his mother and the main character who always assumed she wouldmarry him & live happily forever after. Good story with some good twists and some laughs also. less

This book was okay. Nothing too special, but I enjoyed the story, and some of the characters.
