review 1: I'm not sure if others will love this book as much as I did. My life paralleled Cindy's in many ways. We both got married in our late 30s (one year apart), dated (a lot!) in New York before committing to one person, struggled to have a child (my 2nd her 1st) and, I am pretty certain, I even went on a couple of dates with Cindy's husband Ian, whom I met on match.com, before they met. We also have a few mutual friends in New York so we've met before and I recognized some of the names in the book. Her writing is hilarious and her stories are very relatable ... except the one chapter where she name drops a bit (dinner with Lisa Kudrow and another with Stanley Tucci) and describes her lavish international vacations during courtship and the beginning of their marriage. Other t... morehan that one chapter, I laughed and cried and thought "Me too!" throughout the book ... except I'm the Ian in my relationship when it comes to neatness. I really loved her observations about marriage (what do you do when you've heard the story he's telling friends many, many, many times before?) and issues with "forever" that we all face at some point. It was a quick, easy read and I highly recommend it, especially to anyone who's ever dated in New York.
review 2: As a newlywed, I was excited to win a copy of this book through the First Reads program. Reading through it, I appreciated the author's strong personality and perspective (mostly), and found her very relatable. Chupack provides many funny vignettes; however, there is no real unifying plotline. The story of whether or not she and her second husband have a child is thinly woven in, but not in a particularly compelling way until the very end. My husband also read it and was also entertained but not deeply engaged. less
