review 1: I really liked the story in this book. The topics of changing how you see yourself and the world around you, searching for acceptance, and not being free to choose your own fate all really got into my head while I was reading this. They were well woven into the story.But I couldn't get over the writing style. The author moved from story arc to story arc without delving very deeply into the characters feelings and reactions to what has happened. There are a few exceptions to this, but in general I felt the characters could've been deeper. Also, many things were left to inference or rushed through. I just feel like the story could have been rounded out.
review 2: it's like the reviews all said - the first half was really goodand then for whatever reason, th... moree author shit all over the second half.i would have given it a two except no one told me there was a rape scene. and i dont give a fuck about anything else one of the main characters does, i don't root for rapists.anyways, there had been a pretty good set up at first about a mysterious magical orphan and some political drama, but they did the thing where everyone else knew what was happening and no one would tell us anything. that gets old pretty fast. so yeah, i skimmed the last four chapters and it read like it was from some other book entirely. i'm really glad i got it for free. less
