review 1: This book's greatness lies in it's subtlety: the story is so vague, yet educational in naming body parts, that it can include so many stories: struggles with infertility, trans* and/or queer couples, single parent families, natural childbirth, etc. It's a jumping point to discuss more, which is fantastic. Also inclusive of people with disabilities, but I always have a problem with de-racializing kid's media by painting everyone in bright rainbow colors vs. the many shades that make up the human race.Eta: as I want to be a foster/adoptive parent, I think this is a great way to introduce reproduction to children without having to go into wether babies were planned or not, or even to help children who have been sexually abused think about reproduction with... more sex.
review 2: This book creeps me out a little. I like how it tells how a baby is born in a delicate way. But the over use of colors is what creeps me out. The pictures all look like we came from aliens. But the subject about how your born and who was waiting for you to be born is really cool. This a good parent teacher resource if your trying to explain to your younger child about what is growing in mommy's tummy.Good for younger kids who are curious about where they came from.Better than Where Did I Come From which is where I learned where I came from :-) less

This book really tells is like it is! I loved it. But I sure wouldn't read it at storytime.

I think I'll take a look at this one before deciding whether or not to read it to the kiddo.
