review 1: It feels like most graphic novel memoirs are from young adults dwelling on coming of age. Or of men coming to terms with being human. The unintended symbolism of reading Good Riddance on International Women's Day is kind of nice. To read the story of a woman in her 40s going through a difficult event - one that many adults, not just women go through. But to have it written so honestly in the female voice using a medium traditionally used by men, was a nice touch. It kept the story humorous, instead of dwelling or cranky.
review 2: Overall I thought this book was entertaining and interesting, but relatively forgettable (for me). I do think this book fills a gap in the genre of graphic memoirs and Copeland's voice is unique and engaging. I think what stopped it
... more from being a 5-star read were mostly matters of personal taste. The illustrations didn't appeal to me much, and I felt like the intense emotions being described in the text just weren't particularly apparent in the illustrations.Worth reading for those interested in graphic memoirs, or anyone looking for relatable stories about divorce and being a single parent, told from a female perspective. less
