review 1: I really enjoyed this book, not only was it fascinating history about the Pacific Crest Trail but it was also a real look into the person who took this journey and how it affected his life. While I would love to think about thru-hiking the Appalachian or the PCT after reading this book and A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, I know I will never set my goals that high! What I do have on my bucket list is to hike parts of each!
review 2: I liked the author's sense of humor and conversational style. I also appreciated the perspective of a non-experienced hiker regarding the trail and terrain covered by the trail. What I found most interesting was the sections of narrative covering the hiking and the trail itself, as well as experiences with other hikers. The town
... moreexperiences and history surrounding the trail and locale were a bit less interesting, but I should probably consult an actual hiking guide for this information instead of a travel journal. I felt sad for both at the outcome of the trip, trying to avoid spoilers here. Trying to get my hands on Kindle versions of Skywalkers trail narratives now. less
