review 1: Dr. Ofri’s book was the perfect blend of narrative and candor. A collection of stories, her writing tugged at my heart from beginning to end. This book is far and away the most compelling read I’ve found discussing the way emotions effect both physicians and patients in the practice of medicine. Through her own experiences with her patients she highlights the powerful ability the doctor/patient bond can have on both. It’s not something we talk about often in medicine, but it reaches the absolute core of why we do what we do. I decided to become a doctor largely because of the impact my own physician had on my life and my husband bought me this book at a critical time in my journey to remind me why I started, and why it’s absolutely worth it. A thought provoking and... more moving read for anyone practicing medicine, becoming a doctor, or a life who has been changed by one.
review 2: This book was lent to me by a friend crush, and I started reading it against the backdrop of a sparkling, rustic guest ranch in Montana. (Which is to say: forgive my possible overrating...) But OH the raw honesty, the engaging prose, and the behind-the-scenes look at scenarios and figures that we rarely analyze with such nuance, generosity, and sharpness. Like listening to an extremely reflective, refreshingly frank mentor speak freely about how she got where she is. less

Excellent...a must read for doctors and for our patients, as well.
