review 2: Despite the repeated jibes at Pep Guardiola, I really enjoyed this book.
... more Ibra manages to write in an unfiltered manner, without any of the carefully managed persona that most athletes cultivate. He's unafraid of showing his ego, as opposed to most sports stars who profess humility that no one believes they really have.My favorite anecdotes from the book:1. Ibra's mom and brother getting into a physical fight in the first class section of a plane to Dubai. Ibra chalks that up to his family being "crazy Yugos."2. Ibra's description of getting completely screwed when he was first sold from Malmo to Ajax. It makes perfect sense that he would defer to his agent so completely for the rest of his career after being taken advantage of at the outset.3. "Ibra, what did you give to your fiancée when you proposed?" "I gave her Ibra."4. The negotiations with Barca to get out. He told them that he wanted to leave and the only place he would go was Real Madrid. That, in a nutshell, is how one establishes leverage during a negotiation. Presented with that disastrous possibility, Barca ended up selling Ibra to Milan for 25M Euros, which Sandro Rosell described as the worst piece of business of his career. (Note: this is before Rosell was forced to resign for lying about the particulars of the Neymar transfer.)5. Ibra standing at the top of a slope in St. Moritz, waiting for a crowd of gawkers to disperse because he didn't want them to find out that he is a terrible skier. less
