review 1: **ARC given to me by Netgalley for an honest review**This is an entertaining novella and has all the elements that go into really good romantic suspense. I did want to know more about Brad and wish the author had chosen to write more from his POV and develop his character--but this is difficult to do in a short story. The romance fell a little flat--I think because I knew very little of what Brad was thinking.I really liked Georgie and her world of photojournalism. Looking at life through her artistic lens was interesting and felt real. I would have loved to have had a similar "lens" when it came to Brad's perspective. The relationship between law enforcement and their dogs is fascinating and I'm looking forward to learning more in the next book.Netgalley was kind enough ... moreto grant approval for both this book and the next in the series, Irresistible Force. I'm starting it now. I'm hopeful that the author will spend more time developing the characters in a full length novel.
review 2: This D. D. Ayers work is new to me but after reading Necessary Force, I will look forward to more in this series. I loved the idea of the K-9 Series so I had hoped this would be good. I was wrong it is great. For an introduction to the series, it starts right in with the characters and their relationship. I like romantic suspense and this novella had all the elements of mystery, suspense, danger, secrets and romance. It is short; I read it on one evening but finished with the story having a feeling of completeness to it. I will admit that I had figured out the villain by half way through reading the story but that was okay since the journey of catching him was very satisfying. One of my favorite characters is the FBI Bomb sniffing dog, Zander. The connection between Zander and his handler, Brad, seemed real and was enlightening in the world of the K-9 units. I wondered how much research Ayers must have done to give this story such an authentic feel to it. At the same time, by no means did Zander steal the limelight from Brad or Georgia, his part in the story was well played. I haven’t know many photographers like Georgie but her approach to her work was interesting. She and Brad were sweet and steamy together; which is a hard act for an author to pull off. By the end of the novella, I was hoping that the third time meeting in the park would be a charm they needed for a HEA. I can recommend Necessary Force to those who enjoy suspense with their romance. I see D. D. Ayers as an up and coming author.Copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review. less
