review 1: My review: What I liked about Frozen Prospects:*It was a quick read with a lot of action* The characters, mainly Va'del and Jain, are very relatable* It was a good 1st book of a series. Laid the groundwork for the other books awesomely.What I didn't like about Frozen Prospects:* The author really didn't go into who the Guadel were. Just how they came into power. I am going to assume that they are either fallen angels or demons.* Killing off of Va'del's sponsors and then killing off the only other 2 people who would have taken him in. Didn't make sense to me (of course, I will need to read the next book and see if they are really dead)* The ending. It ended kinda abruptly. Don't like those types of endings.Would I recommend Frozen Prospects?Yup, I w... moreould.
review 2: Dean Murray's Frozen Prospects is enjoyable.The story follows a young boy named Va'dal, an orphan chosen by the Guadel to become on of them. A good aspect about Frozen Prospects is being concise. I never felt much bloat and padding in the way some similar stories try to pass off. Va'dal's trials and inner political dealings with the Guadel are set to a nice brisk speed.Va'dal being a more emotional character does play well, but can be at times the worst part of the story. Having a scene of depression, plot exposition, young love, back to depressions is tiring and sporadic. This stems from another problem, it's all blunt. Everything from Va'dal's feelings, political exposition, and other character's motives are told in a straight matter-of-fact tone. The climax is very heart pounding, but the resolution afterwards feels anticlimactic. While Frozen Prospects may have a number of flaws, it is also one of the few free e-books of note to have a good story. Well worth the time, I will continue to read this series. less
