review 1: I love the Biggest Loser brand. In this book, TV show trainers Bob and Jillian and contestants from all previous seasons share their favorite recipes, healthful eating tips and diet advice. This is not a new formula. However, what I like about this diet guide as opposed to others I've read is the recipes in the Biggest Loser Family Cookbook are tailored for families, meaning they are affordable, palatable and familiar. It's refreshing to find a book full of recipes that don't call for numerous, super-pricey organic ingredients. But its a godsend to find a book of healthy, calorie-conscious meals my kids and non-dieting husband won't groan about. I also thought tips like the staple favorites of the contestants were a great addition to the recipes. I'm not always looking for... more a "recipe" -- just a quick meal solution. Like, tuna salad on celery sticks. I wouldn't have thought of that. But it's an easy substitution that emerged from other dieters' practical experience. I checked this guide out from the library, but I've already added it to my bookstore wish list. It's just too good not to add to my cookbook collection.
review 2: My husband got this cookbook from my parents for Christmas, and it has been a great resource as we try to revamp our lifestyle. It has helped to cut out the junk and add in more whole foods without having to search for strange ingredients at out-of-the-way grocery stores. Even the few ingreients that have not always been in our pantry or fridge are used in quite a few recipes, so we don't find ourselves buying something for $6 that we never use except in one recipe. Even our kids (including a very picky almost-5 year old) have enjoyed most of the recipes we've made. What I've been able to do with this cookbook is to pick and choose from breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipe sections, of course adding in some of our other healthy favorites not in here. It's a great way to make simple lifestyle changes without being overwhelmed, because everything is so common sense. I like that Devin Alexander, the chef/author, states early on that she used to be overweight, and you can tell by the way she phrases her advice. There are little hints and ideas throughout to make meal or ingredient substitutions for favorites that are somehow still satisfying despite being lower cal than you would find, for example, at your favorite Mexican restaurant. If using this as a loose guide to healthier eating is so easy for us now, as we are making changes, hopefully our kids won't ever have to make changes, as they will already make those healthy choices out of habit. less

Some good suggestions! Awfully meat-heavy, though.
