review 1: Let me start by saying, I am not a prude. I believe in love at just about any cost. But, I did not like the way this book started and I certainly didn't like the way it ended. Somewhere along the way I did root for Maxine and Michael Sr. He meets Maxine and they start what she terms as a "sexual" relationship only. Michael Sr. started wanting something of more substance. And after a while she did too. Just as she realizes she's fallen in love with him, his wife, Marie, decides that she can't let him go. Michael Sr. really loved his wife Marie and wanted to save his marriage even though he'd been unhappy for the last 6 years of his 25 year marriage. Then there was the relationship between Maxine and Mikey (Michael Jr.). They were college friends who "innocently... more" flirted with each other through out their friendship...until Mikey discovers his fathers attraction to Maxine and he wants to profess his love for her even though he's recently married as well. Then Marie decides to "re-discover and be true to herself" and grant the divorce Michael Sr. wanted from the beginning. By the end of the story I wasn't liking Maxine or Marie. This is the messiest story I've read in like...forever. Add to that some editing problems and the way it ended, I don't see myself waiting or reading the next installment. WHEW!!!
review 2: Noooooooooooooo! I can not be left with such a "what the ?"I knew it! I knew Mikey had a thing for Maxi! The magnetism leap off the pages! So I read this book with a pretty mellow calmness. Right up until Michael threw his wife's things over the balustrade. I got pissed with him. I was angry for/with him. Where I usually have a foulness for "cheaters". (Strictly due to my own experiences and beliefs)I found myself re-evaluating my opinions. It takes quite a bit for me to do that. Where as I pitied him. I also pitied his wife. A loveless relationship by any means is a toxic-ness all it's own. At first I also labeled Maxi a slut. What can I say? I'm a typical woman. This book really takes you on a evaluation of your opinion's and judgements. All in all at the end of the day my opinion simply came down to...never judge a person, you don't know their journey. Nor the path that lead them to the place and time. It's a good read with a lot of drama. I cheered when Micheal's wife found her true sexualness and gave into it uninhibited.I guess I'll be searching for the 2nd book being I was left on such a cliff! GAH! :P less
