review 1: Actual rating: 3.5 stars.I have a fascination of books about this subject - forbidden love, teacher/student. I'm fascinated by author's perception of these kinds of relationship and I love to see the way they are presented and I often feel like they are all very much the same and predictable, but this one is so unique to what I am so used to reading! It has a unique premise that pulled me in instantly:This follows a struggling college student called Taylor who is quite the introvert - she is put under so much pressure from her parents that she doesn't know how to handle it; she prefers to stay in and study rather than going out and having fun - but when she begins to start partying, she feels the strain on her grades... And seeks an immoral way to bump her grades up. After... more talking with an old friend (who got into a prestigious college after sleeping with a professor in order to get a straight A average), she thinks it will be the best idea to do... But what she doesn't anticipate is the feelings that come from being around the teacher so much...I have never read anything by Ella Morris before but I am highly pleased with her writing style; it was quick paced, interesting, highly detailed and it certainly was good enough to keep my interest completely peaked. One thing that did get me a little irritated, however: during the more raunchy scenes, the writing became a little too fast and the sentences were short and somewhat lacking detailed - as if she was almost frightened to delve into the subject a little more despite how it's one of the main themes of this book - I did like that she did include the subject in some degree (more than a lot of authors do)and I DID enjoy the scenes - so it wasn't that bad; I just wish that they were longer. That's what I'm picking at - the length of them, not the enjoyment of them. I loved them. I loved how the chapters swapped (though it didn't go Taylor/James/Taylor/James... it was kind of more uneven - though I liked this; you don't end up reading about pointless things that the characters are doing. I like how she added in the extra POV when it's needed; and I do like how there is bits from both of them. I loved the characters - both of the characters were easily loveable and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them and about their lives; at the end of the novel I found myself feeling very attached to both of the characters - it makes a change that, in a teacher student novel, I didn't dislike one of the characters. I love them both so much. I did have to question James' morals, however - he's married and he's allowing himself to fool around with a student; but that is something that is sorted (thankfully; I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the novel as much if it wasn't fixed) towards the end of the novel. I think it added a wonderful twist to a teacher student novel; rarely do you read about a teacher that is actually married! I found it to be an interesting twist and it really added depth to the novel and it definitely added depth to the relationship in this novel; giving me a sense of "shipping feels" because by the end of it, I loved them so much. Even though the novel was quick, lots happened - it was fast paced and never once did I put it down and think how boring it was.All in all, this is a great book - it has a great premise, it's interesting, it's fun, it's a quick read and it was overall really enjoyable. Despite the small flaws within this book, it was wonderful and the positives really outweigh the negatives. The reason I gave it 3.5 stars was because of the fact I felt the main theme was rather rushed and needed to be expanded more. But truthfully, I am torn between rating it higher - because I really did enjoy it and it has become one of my favourite teacher student novels.
review 2: When an author takes the time to write a story he or she deserves an honest view of that story. So what I am about to say might not please everyone but it is my honest view of this book. Most of you will have read this premise before. Student stressed out trying to balance college work and college life, student has added pressure from home and an absent boyfriend. Student is being taught by Mr hottie professor, student is attracted to Mr hottie professor but what this story doesn’t tell you that is is also about cheating - different kinds of cheating.Taylor Murray is meant to be the perfect student but Taylor Murray is stressed out and not meeting her grades. Her friends convince her she needs to party more and study less. After being convinced to “chill” she goes to a party with her best friend Nicole. At the party, Taylor meets up with Chantelle, another friend from her past. Chantelle is sophisticated, well dressed and enjoying life. During their conversation Chantelle divulges the secret of her success - she slept with her professor and that guaranteed her an A+ in her grades. Word soon got round that Chantelle excelled at this and her grades from other professors became guaranteed. After leaving the party and in her drunken stupor Taylor decides to take Chantelle’s advice and she emails Mr Zakarak and propositions him and this what happens next……………….Taylor begins an affair with her professor (who by the way seems to be called Professor Carter in the synopsis). The professor is married, he loves his wife, his marriage is faltering but he wants to work on it but he cheats on his wife!Chad is Taylor’s long distance boyfriend. The talk to each other constantly and they tell each other “I love you” but Taylor cheats on Chad with professor Zakarak despite her continuing declaration of love for Chad.Nicole her best friend who loves them and “lays” them cheats on Taylor with Chad. Taylor walks in on them and ends up hurt and in tears - but wait a minute she just got caught cheating on Chad when Mr Zakarak’s wife walks in on them but that doesn’t matter does it?So you see where I am coming from? This plot did not deliver, it was weak and confusing and for me it did not achieve anything except to say that cheating is alright if you want to achieve you ultimate goal. There comes a time when you have to choose between turning the page and closing the book. I closed the book. less
