review 1: I remember my mom didn't let me buy this book when I was in grade six for some reason, probably because of the content. It was an amazing conception of a teen's mind with anorexia. I found myself rooting for the character and gasping at shocking lines and pulling poems and quotes for my recollection. This book was really deep and I enjoyed it."Under the fashion doll's spellShe taught us How to walk and talk and accessorize Fill our closets with dreams and triflesHave possessions be possessed If not in full possession of ourselvesWe create movies in our mindsDaring escapes, kidnappingsSometimes we were even heroinesShowed us the proper attireFor weddings performanceGlamour heterosexualityDates with KenWhoever whereever he isWe so worshipped the Malibu tanSeamless skinLegs s... moreans celluliteThat we swallowed the whole lieAnd little else. Now with the dollsHeadless or head-shavenBroken or lost or closetedWhat do we do with our plastic selves?Butterfly effectInto this chaosComes a boy with two toned eyesDo his wings mark change?"Gravity journal by Sidonie Sobate, GailGreat plains teen fiction, copyright 2008
review 2: I thought this book was brutal. It was poorly written, depressing and overall boring. It's about a sixteen year old who is anorexic, bulimic and slits her wrists. Do I even need to explain why I don't like it? When I finally finished, I thought to myself, "Why would anyone write this?". Her brother is a drug addict, who knew about his sister's problems, but didn't try and stop her. Her mother doesn't even know she hasn't had her period in over a year because she doesn't have enough body fat. Her father is just a push over who doesn't even know anything. The last thing her mom says to her when she is dropped off at the facility to help her with her problems is; "Get better, but don't come home fat."Brutal, brutal, brutal. less
