review 1: I picked this up because my son needed to read a biography for his English class and because I wanted to make sure there was nothing "questionable" in it for a 12-year-old boy (figuring that it's about Hollywood and that there could be, I decided to read it first). I was pleasantly surprised that Hal glossed over that part of his career and stuck to stories about being a stuntman. The stories were entertaining and I learned quite a bit about the workings of Hollywood. I also think that Hal seems to be a pretty down-to-earth, decent guy, all things considered. His book was entertaining, made me laugh in places, and though the writing was a bit weak and I wanted more details in places, overall it was a good read.
review 2: This book was a fascinating look at
... morethe life of an innovative, bold, creative and large personality who also happened to operate without fear of any bodily harm, which is fortunate since, as a stuntman, he inflicted an awful lot of it on his body. But, the world behind action movies, the world of the preparation and the stunt doubles and the potential for disaster and the averted disasters, is a really interesting look at those fearless individuals who have made a career out of placing themselves in harm's way for Hollywood. I loved reading about Hal Needham in his own words. less

This book had such potential, but I just couldn't get past the poor writing.
