review 1: Wow. I can't remember the last time I have laughed so much and felt so much while reading a book. This novel not only had a wonderful narrator voice, it was full of hilarity, wittiness, and descriptions that at first glance seem too ridiculous to have been penned but wait a minute I can picture that in my head EXACTLY. I was able to connecg with the characters on so many levels and just seeing everyone go through all of these changes in such natural ways was beautiful. Honestly, the amount my cheeks hurt from smiling so much is astounding. It took me forever to read because I kept going back and rereading over pages I just read to savor everything that made my heart soar. One minute this book is making you tear up in joy or causing your heart to melt in a puddle of go... moreo and the next it yanks the laughter right out of you. Don't get me wrong - it doesn't come off as one of those meant-to-make-you-feel-good-on-principle books that is full of methaphors and profound lines and quotes; but through the amazing wit and craziness of it all it manages to do just that seemlessly.
review 2: So this was totally adorable. It was sweet, fluffy, funny and just a nice, easy read. I almost didn't read it because Howie comes across as such a dick in the first couple of pages but don't give up! That's not the real him. It's a simple book. There's no real conflict. Just some nice people figuring shit out and being funny and having important romantic, friendly and familial relationships while doing so. It actually kind of reminded me of Rainbow Rowell's stuff in that sense. It was genuinely funny. I properly laughed a few times. The dialogue was sharp and I actually appreciated the simplicity of the characters' circumstances. Idk it's refreshing to see people with normal lives and jobs in the starring roles. But this books strengths were also its weaknesses. It felt super aimless. There was no real beginning, middle and end. The dialogue was funny but also, there was too much. A lot of what the characters said could have been edited down, especially when they repeated themselves. Arthur and Emily never sounded like authentic, modern American people. And it read really really young. Howie was 22. You could have aged him down by 7 years and had the exact same book. One thing I struggle with American books (and enjoy the opposite in UK/Australian books) is that there's this solid line between childhood and adulthood that occurs at the age of eighteen. It might be a societal thing but, really, there's not such a defined time for people to get their shit together or still be growing up, you know? So I liked how Howie was still growing up and living at home and stuff. But he was kind of childish about it, too. So good feature, meh execution, I guess.Whatevs. This was sweet and it made me smile. less

Seems like this has equal chances of being a DNF or 5 stars read.
