review 1: I don't really want this to be at all negative since I was forced to read this for school. To start off I don't think this should have been in the YA section under fiction because in my opinion it's not fiction. It's a memoir. It also had a summery that gave me false hope. I thought I was really going to enjoy it because it seemed like it would be about Eva finding her identity and while it had that element it didn't revolve around it. I do not really enjoy memoirs so that is why I have 3 stars instead of lower because as a book I think it deserves it.
review 2: This memoir relates a family’s experiences with living under communism in post WW II Romania. The author uses her childhood point of view, which is naturally limited. She recounts learning that she
... moreis Jewish and how it must be kept secret. I liked learning about Eastern European conditions for Jews under the communist regimes, and what they needed to do to survive such hostile circumstances. I would like to know more about Molnar as she grew up and became more aware, and would have appreciated an epilogue about what happened to those left behind in Romania and how the Zimmermans came to emigrate to the United States. Other than that quibble, this is a well-written and researched memoir. less
