review 1: This is a teen sci-fi/dystopia romance - and the first of many parts. Lexi is a student at a super-exclusive boarding school. Her father is a famous but controversial geneticist and he keeps her hidden at this school to protect her and her special ability to alter peoples' minds but she's been genetically engineered to do so. Except now things are changing; she meets a new boy at school, Jack and every since he's come to campus, weird things happen, she's getting threats and she's in danger. This wasn't super romantic, pretty much because as a reader, we're too worried about Lexi's safety. This is one of those "trust no one" situations. She wants to trust Jack for a variety of reasons but for good reason she can't.And then we learn at the end of the book just how vulnerab... morele she is.This is not my usual preference in this genre but it was tolerable.
review 2: While I feel like I liked the book enough for it to warrant four stars, I have a hard time giving the book five because of the foul language in it. The s word was in it quite a lot, as well as a smattering of a few other curse words. If you're sensitive to that kind of thing, now you're forewarned . . .I liked the original idea of Mindspeak. I can't go into a lot of details, because it would ruin it, but I thought that the idea of genetically altered beings was really well pulled off here. I enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters, and I loved the writing. It was definitely flawless. I really think this book and series have epic potential. Unfortunately, because I AM sensitive to the cursing, I can't see myself buying the next books in the series, even though I'm just about dying to find out what happens next lol.Overall, great book, but a few personal issues prevented me from absolutely falling in love with it. less

This was an intriguing read about clones. I liked how the story unfolded and that it wasn't rushed but it did lack substance in some parts. Lexi was a relatable person although her smarts were hinted here and there she really didn’t give an impression that she was anything special aside of her ability. Jack was the love interest but he didn’t seem like a trustworthy person so their love really wasn’t based on anything other than “they were made for each other” literally. I liked the twist in the end and it would be interesting to see where it leads.

First of all, Lexi has no idea what the heck she's doing. Second, she's ridiculously stubborn. These two things made it incredibly hard to like Lexi and made it physically and mentally difficult to finish this book.Lexi repeatedly makes dumb decisions. I know she's 17, but she's also supposed to be super smart. I don't see a single piece of evidence to attest to that...No love story, just something created...Perhaps this is just too YA for me :(.
