review 1: I couldn't finish it. I enjoyed the beginning and finding out about her early life but it jumped around a lot and I found it confusing. The beginning was written from her point of view and then there seemed to be an abrupt change and the story was now being told by her son, the author.I picked this up because it looked like an interesting memoir in the art world but the art world hadn't even made an appearance 1/2 way through the book so I gave up.
review 2: This is a true story written by the son of the "Jewish Woman" featured in this gook. Unlike most Holocaust stories that I have read, this account of the life of Felice Massie features one of the refugees who made it out of Poland while other members of her family did not. Her father makes arrangements for
... more her to study in France and then on to Palestine. She eventually ends up in America. To cope with her grief and guilt, she turns to beauty, and becomes a well-known art collector. Her family had never been a very religious one, and she is at odds with her more orthodox family members that she meets here in the United States. To me, this part of the book was sad -- that she escaped so great a persecution but yet never really understood what the Jewish faith is all about. less

Got it free from BookBub. I thought I would enjoy it more than I did.
