review 1: I love Jodi Picoult's books but My Sister's Keeper was a real roller coaster ride of emotions that reduced me to tears on several occasions. She covers the emotional stuff so well, getting right into the heads of all the characters, and of course the subject raises serious questions surrounding organ transplants and the ethics of designer babies. An amazing novel. I would have given it 5 stars except I felt the issues surrounding Jesse's problems terminated rather abruptly without being rounded off properly, and I didn't like the final twist which felt a bit contrived and unnecessarily dark. However, once I'd accepted it had happened I felt Ms Picoult handled the final scenes of the story in her usual superb manner. I definitely recommend this ... morebook.
review 2: This was my second Picoult novel (first was My Sister's Keeper). I knew it would be a tear jerker. I did not read any reviews of it prior to diving in with both eyes. The back of the book did not elude to what the novel was trying about! At first, when I discovered the plot I wanted to change my mind and chose a different book. I am a a little emotional about such topics and already quite a worrier. It was interesting how the chapters bounced all around a time line. I sometimes had to flip back to remember what time frame I was reading about, so as to be clear on what was happening. All in all, I'd say it was nicely written with a very small sense of anticipation. less
