review 1: I read the first book before I saw the movie, and was pleasantly surprised that both were equally good. Since I was reading the books as they were available from the public library, there was a gap between reading each. I enjoyed the second book almost as much as the first, but I have to say I was disappointed by the third book of the trilogy. I didn't think the story line was as good, and it seemed a much slower pace than the first two. (This resulted in my giving the trilogy four stars out of five.) All in all, however, I really liked the books. I grew to really care about the characters and the situations that were thrust upon them. I periodically wondered how I would have reacted to some of the conditions had I been in the place of Katniss or some of the other characte... morers. I recommend these books to anyone who enjoys many kinds of fiction books, such as sci-fi or adventure, and/or those books that make you really consider how the world is - and where it may be going in the future.
review 2: After slogging my way through a few classics, including War and Peace, I needed some lighter material. Having seen the Hunger Games as a film I jumped in to this trio of novels and enjoyed every moment of them. The obvious parallels between these books and Battle Royale did not spoil the moment for me and whilst the target audience may be something more teenage than my 40 years I had that delicious blend of mixed feelings you get when you reach the last page of a delightful journey. less
