review 1: J. Stephen Mikita's story is heartwarming and I could personally feel his mother's love and devotion to him and his love and appreciation for her. I know that there is a very special and strong bond between a mother and a child who needs extra love, encouragement and support. I found myself skipping bits and pieces of the book, however. I felt that a few times it became somewhat redundant. Also, I skipped a lot of the scripture passages and references to things that did not pertain directly to his own life. I am glad to have read his story, though.
review 2: I do not usually love biography's/memoir's but this was an exception for me. It is an uplifting story. It is more about relationships than a life story. The relationship Steve has with his mother is
... more positive and simply beautiful. I lost my mother about a year ago, and while I was reading this book, I was reminded of all the times my mother helped me through hard times. My struggles are nothing compared to the difficulties the Mikita family faced, but the relationships were similar and that brought a comfortable feeling. I love how short the books is. It was quick, to the point and complete. It is wonderful to hear stories about good people doing great things. I did like the scriptures that were quoted. It is interesting what scriptures "speak" to people. Very different from the one's I would pick, but that told me more about the person writing the story. less
