review 1: When people asked me in the past what "diet" I was using to lose weight, I was at a loss for an answer. I didn't think that the ideas I was following had ever been gathered together and given a name. Now I have an answer to give people who are looking for guidance that works.Personally, I am a calorie-counter and I could never blindly follow the advice in this book without an idea of how much I had consumed at the end of the day. But for people who hate calorie counting, this book presents an easy method to change your lifestyle and way of eating and exercising so that you can drop not just pounds but FAT.I think they are a bit harsh on the cardio. It would be better to convince people to add more weight training to their routine for better results, than to tell people the... morey are wasting their time with cardio. My other impression was that it's probably not necessary to divide people into three groups. According to this book I should have followed the most restrictive eating plan, but I ate like the least-restrictive plan and still succeeded. Bottom line: I would recommend this book to anyone who is just starting out and looking for a "diet" -- especially one that doesn't involve calorie counting -- to kick-start their weight loss goals.
review 2: A decent overview of nutrition and how different foods affect your individual biochemistry. Does a good job of explaining it all in lay terms and provides sound nutritional advice as well as some great mental coaching/behavioral change tips. Sticks to a low-starch philosophy, but explains why, and provides an easy style of eating that doesn't involve measuring out every portion of every food. Instead, provides guidance on "bites" of starches during each meal, which may be easier for most people. less
