review 1: Good book. An autobiographical book by Jan Karski, a Polish resistant fighter during WWII. He worked as a courier in the Resistance and saw firsthand and reported on the situation of Poland's Jews. His autobiography is calm, methodical, and not dramatized. Although he certainly got himself into some pretty life-or-death situations, he recounts the events, what led up to them, and how he responded in a measured and restrained way. This book was originally written in 1944 but has only recently been available in English. For readers interested in Poland, WWII, and Poland's resistance movement this is a worthwhile read.
review 2: I was completely absorbed in this book. Jan Karski was a true hero. Having read this book it made me wonder if men were a different bree... mored in those days, and how modern man would respond to the chilling ordeals that Jan Karski had to endure. Some segments of this book have left enduring imprints on my mind, and while I rarely read books a second time, I intend to keep this one for a second read in the future. less
