review 1: I read this for my bookclub, and I admit I only finished it because of that. I was glad to discover at the end the author admitted that it was a hodgepodge of stories about finding her way back home. I confess we (our bookclub) were drawn to it because we live in Greensboro - but I barely recognized the town or life she described. Not all of the South is "Irving Park". I just didn't care for the book. The thread holding it together was too thin.
review 2: Is Jane Borden my spirit animal? No other author has so closely or so comically echoed my particular New York experience than Ms. Borden (so I can forgive the 1.5 pages of Duke bashing, albeit reluctantly). More accurately, she has pinpointed the twenty-something's ongoing internal debate as to "where is home"... more and adds a healthy dose of New York war stories to keep us interested. Sign me up for her next book. less
