review 1: I am not claustrophobic (as far I as I know) but Mr. Franklin's account of these miners plight is enough to take the breath right from your chest and the reports from the miners themselves, is enough to make me question it even further!For myself, I thought that I understood where these men were buried and under what amount of debree was above and on them. No, I had no idea. Mr. Franklin's puts these measurements in easy laymans terms, using buildings and objects that make it easy to visualize what these men were buried under. As well as the heat, smell and air quality was like."...depth twice the height of the Eiffel tower""If a pick up truck was driven through the desert for 20 years without ever having the air filter changed""Their days in the mine was akin to a Califor... morenia Forty Niner, searching for gold in the time of Abraham Lincoln"The strength of will and courage that these 33 men showed is a form that is amazing to read. Mr. Franklin keeps you both with the men and their families as, even knowing the end result of their time in the mine, you hold your breath and pray for their rescue.
review 2: I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, I had never read anything like it before and was worried that it would not hold my interest! However, because of the fact it was real events, I quickly realised that I would not be able to put it down until I knew the outcome. Although at points it did feel like I was reading a statement or bullet point list I think it is a well documented event made story-like less
