review 1: 'The Girl Who Would Be King' is about two girls, Bonnie and Lola, and their rather unconventional coming of age tales. After all, it's not every teenager that has to deal with the loss of parents, bullies, guilt, first loves, betrayal, therapists, crime, violence, AND superpowers.I absolutely loved this book. Bonnie and Lola felt like completely real people and I found myself caring so much about them and their struggles. In fact I fell in love with just about every character in this book. Kelly Thompson makes every character feel fully human whether they are 'good' or 'bad'.When you hear the word 'superhero' used to describe this book, you might be inclined to think that this is only for someone who reads comic books. While comic fans will certainly feel at home in this w... moreorld, there's something here for everybody. The question you should be asking yourself isn't whether you want to read a novel about superheroes, it's whether you want to read a novel about two girls trying to figure out who (and what) they are with a slowly built-up and fascinating superpower mythology making everything just that much more delicious.
review 2: Overall, an okay book. I'd say it's good except for a few things. The writing is decent. Nothing really stands out one way or the other though. The premise is interesting too, and handled well. The characters are well rounded and complex in the best sort of way. SPOILERS AHEADWhat really dropped the rating of this book was the epilogue. It completely overturned an otherwise powerful ending and made reading the book feel rather pointless, and not in an interesting, existential sense. less

A fun, quick read if you like fantasy (this one's about superheroes).

It's a young adult book. I am so embarrassed.
