review 1: I really liked this book. I thought it was well-written and engaging. I especially liked the segments from Hannah. I liked the decision process they when through to evaluate organizations for partnership. I agree that chronic hunger and other widespread issues in Africa are really hard to address. It is easy to throw a lot of money at the problems and not make any lasting difference (or even make things worse). I am baffled by the criticisms of this family's story. Really? How many of those commenters have done something half as courageous as this family?
review 2: I had heard of this family before--perhaps in another book I've read or on the news? It was interesting to hear the entire story of their journey. Although we're not selling our house and do... morenating the proceeds, I am hoping that our downsize and move to an apartment will be an opportunity to give as well. Give away our stuff, give my time that will be freed up without a big house to care for, give our new skilllzzz that we are learning at grad school, etc. less
