review 1: Shelved under 'lesbian' but only incidentally so, which given what I usually read, was sort of a nice change. Severson's sexuality was one of many parts of her life she addressed through her tales of food writing, food cooking, and food eating (all good things!). A really lovely touch is the recipes that she includes at the end of every chapter, which offer the reader a tangible way into her story.
review 2: I read this book on one of my recent 9 plane trips and it was really nice--stress-reducing, interesting to read about Alice Waters in particular, odd that Rachael Ray is one of the cooks that saved the author's lives but I understood how Ms Severson related to Ray's work ethic and relationship to her mother. I would definitely recommend this book to Donna,
... moreLisa, and Kim knowing they like books like this (Kim, the part about Miss Edna and southern cooking was amazing) less
