review 1: As another reader/reviewer has mentioned, I am also shocked at the criticisms that Miss Blakeley has received in the reviews listed here. Not everyone shares the same views on relationships/sex/marriage, but that is no reason to look down on someone for doing the exact thing that most women do during college, just a few years later. I have often contemplated whether it would be worse to loose a significant other to a member of the same sex or to loose a significant other to a member of the opposite sex. Kiri Blakeley has very well explored what happens when that significant other decides that women just don't have the plumbing that he prefers. She was with this man for ten years. TEN YEARS when this life change happened. During the point of her life when she is becomin... moreg a self sufficient adult and learning who she is, she was in ONE relationship. Naturally, when that relationship ends, she starts to come to terms with the fact that she missed out on the part of her life where she explores and gets a little crazy. That doesn't make her slutty, that makes her normal. Kiri has let us in on a part of her life that shattered her entire world and how she picked up the pieces and tried to superglue them back together. I thought it was an amazing story of strength and independence to keep on going after her fiance came out of the closet. I respect her for being able to do this and being able to preserve some type of friendship with her ex.I loved this book. I had such a hard time putting it down and not scrolling on to the next page. While I could have done without some of the detailing of her sexual conquests, it was a really great story. She has let us in on her private thoughts and feelings on the matter and she deserves a round of applause for allowing herself to keep on going despite what she experienced.
review 2: “Can’t Think Straight” chronicles Kiri Blakeley’s trajectory from a secure monogamous engagement to the treacherous singles scene of New York, after discovering her fiancé is gay. Blakeley is witty, raunchy and brutally honest and handles her situation with as much humor as can be mustered from a place of shock and devastation. Coupled with the blow of her break-up is the fact that she is still reeling from the premature death of her beloved 7-year old niece.Adopting an unorthodox coping strategy Blakeley throws herself into New York City’s nightlife with hurricane force, the results of which might send most women running to the nearest convent. “Sex and the City” was a TV show, this is not. Very well-written with a cast of characters as colorful as the rainbow flag “Can’t Think Straight” is alternately funny, shocking, and heartbreaking. less
