review 1: Andrew and Nick have been having problems ever since Andrew took a bullet meant for Nick, following Nick almost being killed. They both feel responsible for the others injuries and the guilt is killing them. Here's a tip -- getting counseling does not mean you're weak. And boy do they both need therapy -- together and alone. Instead of doing that, though, they assumed that their normal "don't think about it, don't talk about it" method would work. Um...no. Instead, they are tearing each other apart because they don't naturally have the tools to deal with everything they've been through.Their situation really broke my heart. Relationships are hard work under the best of circumstances. And with Andrew being a cop and Nick a paramedic, work stress for them is higher t... morehan it is for most of us. Add to that what they were put through when their relationship was new and... damn.For most of this novella, I was questioning whether our guys would make it. Things were pretty grim for a while. They get there, but it took hitting bottom for them to really decide for sure that their relationship was worth fighting for.Damn, LA Witt can sure put her characters (and readers!) through the ringer. I'm sure I've said this before. Phew! We made it.
review 2: I fell in love with Andrew and Nick in the first book. I began to worry about them in the second book. This third story was so real and heart breaking. It bared their souls and seared mine. I get upset when a story gives PTSD and then gives it an easy fix. This small story does not. It tears away the excuses and crutches and shows the real despair of the disease. We love them. We cry for them. We cheer for them. We do not feel optimistic about them. The first book was seen through Nick's eyes. This story is revealed though Andrew's eyes. Will their guilt and fear destroy any hope they have of remaining a couple? Perfect novella. less
