review 1: Having just finished this story, i am still emotionally attached to the main character Tami. The last few chapters were very suspenseful. I won't put any spoilers. It is a love story but also a story of personal growth and a dedsre for freedom. Tami has left Iran so she is desperate to become an American. This occasionally causes her to mis-interpret slang eg: she thinks LOL stands for lots of love. Very sweet character, realistic situation. Will she get her happy ending???
review 2: This book was delightful to read after I stopped gnashing my teeth at Tami's temerity. I thought she would never "get it together"! The ancillary characters are well drawn. I learned to hate Mrs. Hanson; to adore Eva; and to really, really feel for Ike who had to put up with the
... more whole bunch. Cultural differences are front and center in this book and I gained a much better understanding of how some Iranians think and act.I would have appreciated more story towards the final 6 months. How did the coffee shop progress? Were Tami and Ike able to fit into the community and make a real success of their coffee shop? Nevertheless,an enjoyable read. less

I abandoned this - its everything I hate in a book - sickly romance & every stereotype possible

I wasn't prepared to like it as much as I did. Good lessons in commitment and gratitude.
