review 1: A wonderful story written by a very strong woman. Lauren is one of the few people to survive from the World Trade Center on 9/11 and did so with burns on 80% of her body. She has written very bluntly about everything she has gone through from her first weeks in the burn unit, to her continuing surgeries and physical therapies, to the social stigma she faces when being in public. It is a very inspiring read.
review 2: Lauren Manning was standing in the lobby of Tower One on September 11th in the direct path of a fireball of jet fuel that blasted down the elevator shaft and exploded out across the floor. She was burned over 80% of her body and this is the story of her long, exquisitely tedious journey back to a "new normal." Her descriptive writing is amazing... more as she carefully chronicles her injuries, her treatments, and her emotions thoroughly without giving in to the least bit of self-pity. This woman is beyond courageous! There were a lot of heroes on 9/11 but Lauren Manning doesn't consider herself to be one of them. All she asks is that she never be called a "victim." less
