review 1: This is a short memoir and it appropriately has little to say. Lawrence Schiller, famous photographer, took photos of Marilyn Monroe on two different occasions. Once on the set of "Let's Make Love," the other on the set of her cancelled final film "Something's Got to Give." That's the main plotline. I guess there should have been a story of a great relationship between the two, some poignant moments, at least some kind of self-awareness or understanding gained from the experiences. If Schiller had any of these, he hides it well. He and Marilyn don't talk much, his memories are more about how to sell nude photographs of her and make tons of money. On one occasion, Marilyn starts to talk to him about her sad and tragic past, but whaddya know - he forgot what she said.Wh... moreat was the point of this book? It should have been a chapter in an autobiography. His experiences don't seem significant enough to lend itself to an independent book, like in the far superior "My Week with Marilyn." It's a flat read that will serve of no interest to Monroe fans as it reveals pretty much nothing about her. Only Lawrence Schiller may have any interest in this story.
review 2: Lawrence Schiller was a Hollywood photographer, one of the best. Now he's a writer. This small but highly intriguing book is about his professional relationship with Marilyn Monroe, and what he learned about her through the camera's lens. Filled with his iconic pictures (yes, HE was the one that got the nude pool pictures on the "Something's Got To Give" set, with Marilyn's complicity--it is quite the story), this will be a treat for photography fans as well as Rat Pack era Hollywood and, of course, Marilyn. less

There's not much Marilyn in this tiny book; it's mostly about selling photographs.

Unique perspective of a brief time in Marilyn's life. Rare, beautiful photos.

Some interesting observations regarding what Monroe was like.

Disappointing. Read the Vanity Fair article instead.
