review 1: While their parents slumber unaware in their own beds, their children slip out into the night and join a parade filled with other children. In rhyming text this picture book describes all the things they end up doing, such as making cakes, playing music, putting on costumes, and reading "mountains of books" (unpaged) before returning home to sleep. No wonder they're tired in the morning. All the nighttime activities are sweet and innocent, and the watercolor and ink illustrations fill each page with humorous images, including a dog licking the frosting from a cupcake offered to it by a generous child. This one is a sort of calmer, gentler Where the Wild Things Are since it is filled with so much imaginative play.
review 2: This is a great book of imagining what
... more happens when mothers and fathers go to sleep and the kids go on parade. Making cake for the moon, warring costumes, and telling magical tales. What could be more fun than that? This would be a great Pre-K book to read before quite time in the classroom. To engage the kids after reading The Night Parade, the teacher could ask the students to name two of the animals the kids on parade where dressed as. You could also ask the student what they thought the most exciting part of the parade was.Roscoe, L., & Walker, D. (2014). The night parade. New York: Orchard Books. less

Very rhythmic and I'm sure what a great many children wish they could do all night.
