review 1: I basically flipped through this book in about 10 minutes and then set it aside - which is a shame considering all the effort that obviously went into both creating it and printing this lavish edition. I waited about 6 months for my library to get it through inter-library loan, and unfortunately I thought I was getting a reproduction of the Voynich Manuscript, which, unlike this imitation, is the real deal, so I was disappointed by that mistake as well. The illustrations were rendered in colored pencil, and I wasn't very impressed with the artist's style or creativity. They look like something that a teenager taking shrooms would draw. The calligraphy was more interesting, but it gets repetitive and it's not exactly something that you would want to spend very much time lo... moreoking at unless you are driven to try and figure out if it is some type of code - which it probably isn't.It's an interesting book, but not an original idea and the artwork isn't good enough to stand on its own. I'm glad that I was able to see a copy, but if I had shelled out a lot of money to buy it I would have had some major buyer's remorse.
review 2: Surreal and not real. A GREAT coffee table book and even more. This rather large art project is guide to the attributes of an imaginary world. There are sections on the plant , animal, mineral and architectural genres within the World. The mind blowing part is that the book is written entirely in a made up secret language. But it is just not gibberish. If you look closely you can see that there is a discipline in how the various characters appear. The visuals are superb in this book and it is noted that the author took 3 years to create this opus. So far NO ONE has decoded the secret language and maybe that is okay as it certainly adds texture to the book.So if one day you just want to escape from the [reassures and drudgery of our everyday life then pop open this book and after a couple of pages I guarantee you will have a smile on your face, and be recharged less
