review 1: I read the summary on this book and just knew I had to read it as it sounded so amazing. I have to say I was not disappointed. This books jumps you right into the action and it was a promising start to what will be a great series. We start off by meeting Emma who we quickly learn is a Hunter as the book starts us off with her fighting some vampires. I have to say that I loved the concept of Emma being a Hunter. It made her so strong and fierce and she was unstoppable. She was such a powerhouse and I loved that about her. The author did an awesome job of creating her as such a complex strong character that was also a little vulnerable as we learn throughout the book. Emma has such a cool best friend in Ava. Ava was such a funny character and such a great friend to Emma. I h... moreated that Emma couldn't tell her who she really was.Emma eventually meets Jake at a party and that's when her life takes a turn. I loved Jake. He was so cool and just what Emma needed to open herself up and let someone into her life. I have to say the author knows how to create suspense because I found myself sucked into this book because I had to know what Jake was. The twist the author throws out didn't disappoint me either. I loved how she threw it but made the choice such a cool one. I loved that Jake and Emma were there for each other in every way and truly were an awesome couple. The world building the author created was so cool too. The fact that all this was happening on a college campus was enough to always have Emma on high alert. The normal colleges experiences like parties and every day college life were something that Emma kind of had a back seat too because she was too busy hunting. I liked that the author still showed the college life though and chose it as a background for everything. I loved that once Emma meet Jake she tried to have a somewhat normal life though although I hated she didn't get to enjoy it as much as she would have liked.Overall this book was cool read. The aspects of Hunters and these vampires was really cool.I feel like too often we see Vampires portrayed as nothing more than people following their blood lust. These vampires were more intelligent and more human like. Yes they wanted to take over but I could see their reasons why. The author did such a good job crafting them that she made me feel for them for a split second then I remembered that they were vampires and had to let that thought go. I highly recommend this one for a great vampire read and if you love for your heroines to be strong.I received a copy of this book from Roxanne at Bewitching Book Tours for review but this in no way infulenced my review.
review 2: Violet Midnight is the start to a really cool new series. I was a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in high school so as soon as the book jumps right into a scene where the main character calls a cross bow out of thin air and kills a vampire, I knew I would like this book. Emma is freakin' awesome. She is a hunter, although since she is one of a kind I don't really know how everyone knows to call her the hunter, but the name isn't really too important. What is important is that she kicks butt! Although I would hate not sleeping or eating or drinking. I love food! (I would probably get way more done if I didn't have to sleep though) When Emma met Jake, I could feel the connection the two of them shared. It was so cool to watch them try and uncover the mystery surrounding them. Violet Midnight is an interesting take on vampires. I was riveted. The book is pretty brisk. The action just keeps moving alone. There are no dull moments or lags in the storyline. It took awhile before we got any sort of real answers but it was so worth it. The plot just kept building and building until there was an epic ending! I loved Violet Midnight and I can't wait to read the second book. I am a little curious as to the direction that it is going to take. I'm excited to find out! less
